It was very disappointing to be refused a Media Pass to attend this VicRoads Auction,a personal email to Alan Morecroft at Vicroads resulted in a standard email advising the Auction was fully booked.

Those who attended would have noticed me outside interviewing participants to gauge their views on VicRoads attempt to market and sell “Heritage Look Alike’ Plates.

The Auction was attended by approximately 400 people, it was also disappointing to witness Vicroads staff allowing unregistered latecomers into the Auction, so much for the fully booked and you cannot attend.

From the Auction results, one can only assume that the withdrawal of the V-Plates by the Federal Court Injunction actually increased the bidding on the Heritage plates and confirmed their high values.

The full results of the Auction are available on www.goingonce.com.au. Perhaps the difference between Plate 390 ($101,000) and Plate 334 ($76,000) highlights the market, I thought it was all about collecting the lowest number one could afford.

The group of concerned Heritage Plate holders who instigated the Court action attended the Auction and handed out a pamphlet seeking support at the conclusion of the Auction ,outside the venue.

The vast majority of attendees I interviewed were very concerned with VicRoads actions in releasing the ‘Look Alike’ Heritage Plates and wanted to be kept fully informed.

After careful consideration I have set in motion a Heritage Plate Holders interest group that will give Members a strong voice in matters relating to their holding of a Heritage Plate or plates.

Perhaps this debarcle over V-Plates could have been avoided if VicRoads had discussed it fully with Heritage Plate Holders,rather than ride on the back of traditional Heritage Plates.

I urge you to Register your interest with this new group as there is no doubt that the V-Plate ‘Look Alike’ Heritage Plates will certainly reduce values if they are allowed onto the market.
